MEET TUCKER.

Tucker arrived at BCHR in October 2021, and his story isn’t a typical rescue. This 13-hand chocolate palomino was once a seasoned show pony spending years in lesson programs, show rings, and wash stalls. Tucker was the kind of pony who had truly seen it all.

While Tucker was well cared for, his experience reflects a common reality in the show world. Horses and ponies are often passed from owner to owner as riders outgrow them in size or skill. Even with good intentions, these long-lived animals can slip through the cracks over time. Tucker did have several owners, but his final family made a selfless choice. Rather than risk his being passed along again, they reached out to rescue instead. What Tucker hadn’t known was life beyond work – true turnout, a herd, and the freedom to just be a horse. He arrived feisty and guarded, but once he settled into comfort and consistency, he softened quickly and embraced his gentler side.

Tucker’s journey has included health challenges, including a serious bout of Lyme disease that led to metabolic complications. Thanks to proper care, medication, and nutrition, his symptoms are now in remission and he is feeling good. Not every rescue story is dramatic, but every one matters. Tucker’s rescue is about giving a well-loved pony the peaceful, horse-first life he always deserved.
