Danielle DeBenedetto    I started volunteering during my junior year at Ramapo College before BCHR was a nonprofit organization. I had fallen in love with the horses, the farm, and the overall positive environment that it was before hearing about its ultimate mission. Words cannot express how much these horses and this organization have helped me in my own life; and it is evident that we are making a huge difference in the lives of these beautiful animals- we are giving them a second chance at life.

Dennis Trum I grew up with horses and have always had a passion for these wonderful animals. After retiring from a successful career in the packaging industry I returned to Mahrapo Farm, having once boarded my family’s horse there. Now I volunteer regularly at the rescue, grooming and exercising our horses. I’m always happy to share my extensive horse knowledge with the other volunteers to help them learn how to properly care for our rescues.

Donna Sacco I actually don’t know if I can put into words how the farm makes me feel. I love being there and feel a strong sense of purpose. I never knew much about horses and am shocked at how smart and intuitive they are. I feel very connected to the Rescue. It’s a spiritual place and its purpose unfolds more and more each day…and not just for the animals. It is an amazing place and I am truly grateful to be a part of it all.

Anne Barretta With the help of several experienced volunteers, I’ve learned the basics of horse grooming, tacking and exercising. Considering that many of the BCHR horses were abused or abandoned, I feel especially grateful and honored to have gained their trust through these necessary activities. With our love and concern for the horses, we volunteers bond quickly over shared chores and develop a helpful and supportive camaraderie. These majestic creatures have beautiful souls, and I am humbled to think that I might be making a difference in their lives…but in the end they’ve made a tremendous impact on mine.

Karen Vana-Grecco Every time I turn into the driveway I feel as if I have won a “golden ticket.” I spend my days caring and loving all of these animals even the adorable goats, chickens and dogs that live on the property. There is always something to do and an animal to love daily. The mission of the rescue reflects the love that these horses give back to me and to all of the volunteers. The rescue has become a family to me, my farm family. I feel a sense of purpose and a never-ending love for these amazing animals.

Roe Frontauria The time I spend at the farm with all the wonderful people working to help these animals is something I am so grateful to be a part of. It is such a joy to be involved with helping these horses learn to trust and accept love from people. It truly is such a special place for the animals and for me.

Joe Sacco A retired police officer, Joe handles the Rescue’s finances and also helps oversee the grounds and buildings on the farm. His first task was to clean the overgrowth around the farm and soon was painting and repairing the various barn structures. He and his wife Donna were integral in helping the BCHR become incorporated as a 501 (c) 3 organization.
